As I promised, I am writing to you. On the recommendation of a friend, I started taking Lion’s Mane capsules last August. The injury itself occurred in May. I fell on the pavement and broke my shoulder, and a few days later blurred vision appeared. I ended up in the hospital, where they diagnosed oedema in both eyes; apparently, one had already developed earlier without me noticing. The oedema caused irreversible atrophy of the optic nerves in both eyes. In August, my vision worsened further – down to 16%. A cobweb-like shadow also appeared in the visual field of my right eye. This was caused by a defect in the division of the vitreous body. Two doctors told me that this is permanent and will not disappear, and that I would simply have to get used to it; once I get used to it, it will no longer bother me.
At the beginning, I took the capsules, 3 × 3 capsules per day. After one month, the cobweb-like shadow that had appeared disappeared completely. I took the capsules until the beginning of October, then paused due to therapy with Medrol, in order to help the oedema resolve faster, as it was present in both eyes. A check-up one month after the therapy showed no significant changes. After the therapy ended, I continued with the capsules. In December, I replaced them with powder – one scoop per day. After consulting with you, in February I started using the tincture, 15 drops daily in the evening before bedtime. I take the drops for one month, followed by a 5-day break. All hospital examinations did not reveal a cause – everything was negative. I was prescribed medication for cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood thinning. Over a few months, my values dropped to 2.7; blood pressure is 130/85, and I have had persistently elevated platelets for some time. Ten days ago, I had a follow-up examination at the neuro-ophthalmology clinic. It was determined that my condition has improved in both eyes. Previously, my vision was 0.3 in both eyes; now it is 0.5 in one eye and 0.6 in the other (values are in percent terms). I will receive my official dioptre measurement next month from my ophthalmologist, as it is not determined in the hospital.
I still see blurred images, but I know that during the examination I could see better – I could distinguish numbers more clearly and see more of them. In the colour vision test, I previously recognized only one number, whereas in November I could recognize three. Everything else was just a colourful mass – now I can recognize the outlines of numbers, although I still cannot clearly identify all of them.
The doctor tried to convince me that there would be no improvement, as the optic nerve does not regenerate and it depends on the device used for measurement (the same device in the same clinic). I will continue using the tincture, as it is my only hope that there may still be some improvement. Doctors say there is no cure, and that the optic nerve – or ganglion cells at the back, which are thinned across the entire retina – cannot regenerate.
It was very difficult for me to write all of this – I used voice dictation – but I am willing to answer any questions you may have.
