Our story
MycoMedica d.o.o: More Than Mushrooms — A Story Built on Knowledge, Research, and Nature.
What began as a fascination with fungi grew into decades of research, discovery, and a deep commitment to understanding their potential.
For Assistant Professor Andrej Gregori, founder and director of MycoMedica, that fascination began in childhood. His parents, both biologists, played an important role in shaping his early curiosity: his mother studied fish, while his father studied birds. Nature was simply part of everyday life, and exploring the natural world was a natural part of growing up. From an early age, he was drawn to the world of science — spending hours at the microscope, observing, experimenting, collecting herbs and mushrooms, and exploring the invisible processes that shape life. That curiosity led him to study agronomy and eventually took him far beyond the traditional academic path.
After completing his studies, he travelled to Asia, where he worked on mushroom farms, learned advanced cultivation techniques, and gained first-hand insight into traditional East Asian medicine. There, his understanding of medicinal mushrooms took on a new dimension — bringing together traditional knowledge, close observation of nature, a deeper understanding of fungi, and scientific research. He continued to build on this knowledge through further study, research, and collaboration with the international scientific community.

Today, Andrej Gregori is recognized as one of Europe’s leading experts in medicinal mushrooms and a pioneer in their research, cultivation, and processing.
In 1998, together with his mother, he founded the Institute of Natural Sciences and began cultivating medicinal mushrooms using natural cultivation methods. From this vision grew the company MycoMedica d.o.o., which today operates from Podkoren near Kranjska Gora.
MycoMedica d.o.o. stands out as a symbol of excellence in the field of nutritional supplements made from medicinal mushrooms and fungi, united under the GOBA® brand. From the very beginning, knowledge has been at the heart of MycoMedica. Not quick promises or shortcuts, but long-term research, a deep understanding of fungi and their complex bioactive compounds, and a commitment to quality.
We are home to Slovenia’s largest collection of medicinal mushroom cultures, forming the foundation of our research and production. All our mushrooms are 100% European in origin, organically cultivated, and grown under controlled conditions at our own facilities. We use innovative and environmentally friendly approaches in the production process. GOBA® products are tested by accredited laboratories in Slovenia and abroad and are subject to rigorous quality controls.
The effectiveness of GOBA® nutritional supplements is based on the scientific work of the research group led by Assistant Professor Andrej Gregori, PhD. Their research is published in numerous professional and scientific publications and confirms the potential of medicinal mushrooms in various fields of modern science.
Due to the verified quality and proven effectiveness of the raw materials of MycoMedica d.o.o. they are used by many international pharmaceutical and other companies in their own brands. Some of these raw materials are also used in our own GOBA® nutritional supplements. More than 2 million people have chosen our products to date — a milestone that reflects the trust our customers place in our knowledge, quality, and approach to medicinal mushrooms.
Today, in addition to nutritional supplements for people, MycoMedica also develops products for companion animals, extending our expertise into a new field. The pet product line was created from a deep understanding of nature, scientific insight, and a commitment to the well-being of our four-legged companions.
Each GOBA® product is the result of many years of experience and scientific knowledge about the use of medicinal mushrooms, with an emphasis on the quality of raw materials, safe use and a responsible, holistic approach to supporting well-being.
The team of MycoMedica d.o.o. brings together researchers, production experts, and colleagues in marketing and sales. We are united by a shared vision: to bring nature, science, and quality together in products based on knowledge – not promises.

Timeline of MycoMedica d.o.o.
Regular inspections and certifications ensure a high level of quality across our work. In addition to meeting all regulatory requirements, we carry out further voluntary quality controls in our own laboratory, as well as in accredited independent laboratories in Slovenia and abroad, and in cooperation with domestic and international research institutions.
Clinical study on GOBA® Hericium erinaceus
We have published the first clinical study on GOBA® Hericium erinaceus heteropolysaccharides
Removing heavy metals with our products
We show that our product GOBA® Galimmun® effectively binds heavy metals and potentially helps to detoxify the body. The work is being carried out under the supervision of Associate Professor Gregor Marolt, PhD.
HighFive project
The project with the acronym OEDFS represents a project of interdisciplinary integration and collaboration to use, consolidate and introduce digital twin technology in the sector of processing of medicinal fungi for food supplements, by introducing a new system of sensors and automation and digitisation of extraction and drying processes in the company MycoMedica d.o.o..
CoPro project
Development of the first standardized dietary supplement from Cordyceps, with more than 10 mg/g cordycepin. The first of its kind with a standardized bioactive compound content.
eRECY's project
As part of the project, we will develop a nutritional supplement from the medicinal fungus Hericium erinaceus in an innovative formulation, which will be the first in the world to have a standardized and declared content of the main neuroprotective agent, erinacin A.
ERA project
The goal of the project was to develop a nutritional supplement from medical mushrooms of the Hericium species, which will be the first on the world market to have a standardized and declared content of the key pharmacologically active ingredient in the mushroom – erinicin A.
PANDA 2023, Shanghai
As representatives of Slovenia, we presented our new product GOBA Hericium erinaceus K and our research achievements at the Pan-Asian and Pacific Conference of the Pan-African Network of Natural Products and Drug Discovery Associations (PANDA) and the International Seminar of the UNESCO Regional Network of Natural Products Chemistry for Safety and Well-being.
Innovative drying system for the treatment and processing of mushrooms and their extracts
By carrying out the project, we want to modernize and improve the material, energy and time efficiency of our production in an ecological, environmentally friendly way.
Effect of Hericium erinaceus supplement enriched with erinacin A on cognitive abilities
The aim of our study was to examine the effects of Hericium erinaceus (HE) supplementation on cognitive function and serum levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neuropeptide Y (NPY).
Tracking the dynamics of nanoplastic removal
The study presents a sustainable approach for nanoplastic removal using Trametes versicolor biomass, which proved effective under dynamic conditions and exhibited a strong binding affinity toward nanoplastic particles.
Development of mycelial-PLA composites to improve mechanical properties and radiation shielding performance
The fungal species Trametes gibbosa and Ganoderma lucidum were incorporated into PLA. The findings demonstrate that the integration of fungal biomass into thermoplastic materials such as PLA not only enhances mechanical performance compared to conventional mycelium-based materials, but may also impart additional functional properties, including improved resistance to UV radiation.
Electrochemical monitoring of interactions between polystyrene nanoplastics and fungal mass for advanced sensor applications
The research offers a sustainable approach for field monitoring and reduction of nanoplastic pollution in aquatic environments.
Fungal extracts affect the lifespan and immune responses of the Carniola bee (Apis mellifera carnica, Pollmann 1879)
This study demonstrates that the inclusion of fungal extracts in the diet of bees improves indicators of the immune response in bees.
