ERA project – A newly developed Hericium erinaceus food supplement with standardized erinacin A content (9.7.2020 – 8.7.2022)
In collaboration with:
GOBA® Hericium erinaceus powder is an organically produced food supplement made from the fungus Hericium erinaceus, also known as Lion ‘s Mane.
It is a 100% pure powder, extracted from organically grown mushroom, using a low-temperature drying and micronization method to preserve the active compounds.
Suitable for anyone who wants to naturally support clear thinking and focus, maintain a balanced gut microbiome, and appreciate a natural, capsule-free form of intake.
Hericium erinaceus is a culinary and functional mushroom, recognized for its distinctive, cascading appearance
and long-standing use in traditional East Asian medicine.
Lion’s Mane has been featured for centuries on the menus of Buddhist monks and in the recipes of traditional
Chinese and Japanese medicine.
Its unique shape, resembling the flowing strands of a white beard, has inspired names such as Lion’s Mane,
Monkey’s Head, and White Beard.
In nature, it grows on dead hardwood trunks across Europe, Asia, and North America. Today, it is cultivated
under controlled conditions in organic farms to preserve its valuable properties.
The powder contains pharmacologically active compounds:
1-3D-beta glucans – including HEP3,
phytosterols (e.g. beta-sitosterol, ergosterol),
polysaccharides, polypeptides and terpenes,
essential minerals and trace elements (Zn, Fe, Se, Ge),
niacin, biotin and vitamin D.
A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study was conducted at the
University of Primorska on GOBA® Hericium K (capsules).
The study investigated several aspects, including:
✨ cognitive functions in healthy adults (55-75 years),
✨ expression of nerve growth factor (NGF),
✨ diversity of the gut microbiota.

Our family first officially encountered dementia when doctors told us that our grandmother Olga had it. Beyond that, they were not able to explain much or offer any real guidance. We received a prescription for some patches, and that was essentially all from their side.
It was very difficult for us to watch our grandmother change from a talkative, sociable lady into a forgetful, confused, time-disoriented, and withdrawn person. At times she would just stare off into the distance, and we tried with all our strength to get her attention, to make her speak or respond. There were better and worse days, but overall, we felt we had lost the grandmother we once knew.
By chance, we came into contact with medicinal mushrooms from the Slovenian company MycoMedica. Our attention was drawn to the Lion’s Mane mushroom, which has been used in traditional medicine for centuries, among other things as an aid in dealing with dementia.
Following advice, we created a six-week course of this medicinal mushroom. In the fourth week, remarkable changes began to appear. Our grandmother became increasingly responsive, even started asking us questions and participating in conversations. The spark of presence returned to her eyes. These changes were also noticed by others, who agreed that Lion’s Mane is worth taking earlier, as a preventive yearly course, when one is still able to take care of it themselves.

Hello, I am writing to share my experience with progressive multiple sclerosis and the positive impact your medicinal mushroom, Hericium, has had on my overall health and well-being. I am very pleased to say that taking one teaspoon of Hericium daily has made a real difference in my everyday life. After about two months of use, I noticed an improvement in the function of the right side of my body. I was able to start doing things with my right hand again that I had almost given up on. My walking and balance have improved significantly compared to before, which has also had a positive effect on my mood and overall well-being. I have enough energy to carry out my daily activities, and I genuinely feel that my life has changed since I started taking your mushroom products.
Thank you very much for everything. I hope my experience will reach others who are facing similar health challenges and feel that they have run out of options. I highly recommend it! Thank you! Peter
As I promised, I am writing to you. On the recommendation of a friend, I started taking Lion’s Mane capsules last August. The injury itself occurred in May. I fell on the pavement and broke my shoulder, and a few days later blurred vision appeared. I ended up in the hospital, where they diagnosed oedema in both eyes; apparently, one had already developed earlier without me noticing. The oedema caused irreversible atrophy of the optic nerves in both eyes. In August, my vision worsened further – down to 16%. A cobweb-like shadow also appeared in the visual field of my right eye. This was caused by a defect in the division of the vitreous body. Two doctors told me that this is permanent and will not disappear, and that I would simply have to get used to it; once I get used to it, it will no longer bother me.
At the beginning, I took the capsules, 3 × 3 capsules per day. After one month, the cobweb-like shadow that had appeared disappeared completely. I took the capsules until the beginning of October, then paused due to therapy with Medrol, in order to help the oedema resolve faster, as it was present in both eyes. A check-up one month after the therapy showed no significant changes. After the therapy ended, I continued with the capsules. In December, I replaced them with powder – one scoop per day. After consulting with you, in February I started using the tincture, 15 drops daily in the evening before bedtime. I take the drops for one month, followed by a 5-day break. All hospital examinations did not reveal a cause – everything was negative. I was prescribed medication for cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood thinning. Over a few months, my values dropped to 2.7; blood pressure is 130/85, and I have had persistently elevated platelets for some time. Ten days ago, I had a follow-up examination at the neuro-ophthalmology clinic. It was determined that my condition has improved in both eyes. Previously, my vision was 0.3 in both eyes; now it is 0.5 in one eye and 0.6 in the other (values are in percent terms). I will receive my official dioptre measurement next month from my ophthalmologist, as it is not determined in the hospital.
I still see blurred images, but I know that during the examination I could see better – I could distinguish numbers more clearly and see more of them. In the colour vision test, I previously recognized only one number, whereas in November I could recognize three. Everything else was just a colourful mass – now I can recognize the outlines of numbers, although I still cannot clearly identify all of them.
The doctor tried to convince me that there would be no improvement, as the optic nerve does not regenerate and it depends on the device used for measurement (the same device in the same clinic). I will continue using the tincture, as it is my only hope that there may still be some improvement. Doctors say there is no cure, and that the optic nerve – or ganglion cells at the back, which are thinned across the entire retina – cannot regenerate.
It was very difficult for me to write all of this – I used voice dictation – but I am willing to answer any questions you may have.

My name is Aleksandra Pivec and I am 37 years old. About fifteen years ago, I started experiencing problems and symptoms related to pollen allergy during the spring, which were quite bothersome. My condition gradually worsened from year to year, and the symptoms became increasingly severe. During the spring and early autumn, I suffered from a runny nose, irritated eyes, and a dry cough. About five years ago, while working as a researcher in a laboratory, I first came across information about medicinal mushrooms originating from China. Around that time, my father was diagnosed with cancer. I ordered the mushrooms from China, and we added them to my father’s diet in order to reduce the negative side effects of chemotherapy treatment. It soon became clear that mushrooms are a good stimulator of the immune system, as my father did not experience any side effects from this aggressive treatment and tolerated it very well. I also started consuming the mushrooms myself. About three years ago, when mushrooms became available on the Slovenian market, I started using locally produced products, which, I must honestly say, I trust much more than those imported from China. Since then, my allergy-related problems have disappeared or have become much, much milder. For the past three years, I have not needed the treatment prescribed by my personal physician during the spring and autumn, which had previously helped relieve the severe symptoms associated with my allergies. During this period, I have suffered much less from common seasonal viral infections and colds. Even though I have two young children who constantly bring home various viruses from kindergarten and school, I recover from every minor illness very quickly. I feel that my immune system is truly strong and responds quickly to every form of illness. As both my husband and I are vegetarians, we also regard adding mushrooms to our diet as an effective and beneficial food supplement. Since we are both physically active, we also find them very beneficial for recovery after sports activities. In short, by adding mushrooms to my diet, I have greatly improved my health after allergies and increased my body’s immune responsiveness. Because of my positive experience and trust, I also recommend adding mushrooms to the diet to people around me. Dr. Aleksandra Pivec, Ptuj
In principle, medicinal mushroom products are not sensitive to sunlight. It is more important to keep them in a cool, dry place. A dark bottle definitely helps to preserve the quality of the products.
It is recommended to consume medicinal mushroom preparations for about three weeks twice a year. Longer periods of use are recommended for more prolonged problems, but with short breaks of a few days, which should be prolonged as the problem begins to subside. The purpose of medicinal mushroom preparations is not to be taken continuously but only as a kind of support.
In principle, there are no known contraindications in such cases. In any case, it is not advisable to take several food supplements at the same time, as this puts too much strain on the organism and may cause nausea. We suggest that you always take a break of at least two hours between taking two food supplements. We advise against taking vitamin C in addition to medicinal mushroom products.
Allergic reactions to mushroom-based preparations are rare. With long-term use of higher doses, more sensitive individuals may occasionally experience a mild skin reaction, such as itching, which usually resolves upon discontinuation of use or a reduction in dosage.
Products in powdered form made from medicinal mushrooms differ from extracts primarily in their method of preparation and consequently in their composition. Each form has its own advantages.
At MycoMedica d.o.o., mushroom powder is obtained using low-temperature drying in order to preserve as broad a spectrum of bioactive compounds as possible, including those that are more heat-sensitive or insoluble, which could otherwise be lost or altered during the extraction process.
The powdered products therefore contain a highly comprehensively preserved mushroom biomass. In general, the body needs to invest more energy in the breakdown and absorption of powders; however, this form retains a broader spectrum of naturally occurring constituents.
Extracts are obtained from fresh mushroom material, as it contains protein and enzyme components that can be efficiently extracted using a suitably optimised process.
The process includes cold and hot water extraction as well as ethanol extraction across a wide concentration range. Through percolation – a process in which the solvent passes in a controlled and gradual manner through the mushroom material – we ensure an optimal extraction of a broad spectrum of naturally occurring water- and alcohol-soluble compounds from the biomass.
Through water extraction, water-soluble compounds are extracted from the mushroom cells, while ethanol extraction yields alcohol-soluble compounds. The extract is then concentrated at low temperatures and under reduced pressure, which reduces the risk of changes in thermolabile components.
Our innovative extraction process ensures a high-quality extract with a well-balanced profile of active compounds.
Dietary supplements made from medicinal mushrooms are increasingly being used in animal nutrition as a complement to a balanced and varied diet.
Numerous modern scientific studies and clinical trials investigate the activity of bioactive compounds from medicinal mushrooms, their characteristics, and their influence on physiological balance in the organism.
When used in animals, it is most important to follow the recommended dosages of each product and take into account the animal’s overall health status.
For those who don’t just want quick fixes, but lasting balance. For those who understand that health is not a goal, but a way of life. For those who aren’t just looking for a nutritional supplement, but a companion on the path to well-being. Because sometimes the smallest things bring the biggest changes.
