Asst. Prof. Andrej Gregori, PhD is a Slovenian biotechnologist, researcher, and pioneer in the fields of mycology, mushroom cultivation biotechnology, and the development of medicinal mushroom supplements. He graduated in agronomy from the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, where he later earned his PhD in biotechnology.Today, he serves as an Assistant Professor at the same faculty, lecturing on mushroom biology, cultivation, and processing, while also participating in both national and international research projects.
Gregori’s scientific work is grounded in more than 20 years of research and practical experience in the field of medicinal mushrooms. As an author and co-author, he has contributed to numerous scientific and professional publications on mushroom cultivation and their bioactive compounds, including research on medicinal mushrooms growing in Slovenia and their application in food supplements.
Alongside his academic career, Gregori is also the founder and director of MycoMedica d.o.o., the company behind the GOBA® brand. Under his leadership, the company has grown into one of Europe’s leading independent producers of medicinal mushroom supplements, with the entire development and production process managed in Slovenia. He oversees every stage of production — from raw material selection to the final product — while maintaining high standards of quality and traceability.
Gregori’s work bridges traditional knowledge of medicinal mushrooms with modern scientific approaches. He regularly shares his expertise through lectures and professional events in Slovenia and abroad, contributing to a broader understanding of the biological properties of mushrooms and their role in modern nutrition and science.
As an author and co-author, he has participated in various international research projects and publications focusing on mushroom cultivation, methodologies for obtaining bioactive compounds, and their potential effects on the human body. Through his work, Gregori contributes both to the development of high-quality natural products and to a wider recognition of mycotherapy as an interdisciplinary scientific field.
Asst. Prof. Gregori is highly regarded both within the international scientific community and among producers of natural supplements. Through his work, he continues to strengthen the recognition of Slovenian expertise in medicinal mushrooms and promotes scientifically grounded approaches in practice — from laboratory research to the development of nutritional products.
