If you want to try your hand at mushroom cultivation, preparing a spore suspension is one of the fundamental procedures.<\/p>\r\n
In this article, we present the method for preparing spore inoculations used in mushroom cultivation. The necessary materials and basic steps for preparing a spore suspension under sterile conditions are described.<\/p>\r\n

Shallow glass or metal container with lid<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

Ethanol or another disinfectant<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
The mushroom cap is cut close to the base and placed in a shallow container (Figure 1), which has been previously cleaned with alcohol or sterilized for 30 minutes at 180\u202f\u00baC.<\/p>\r\n

The cap is left in the container for several hours to allow spores to accumulate on the bottom \u2013 forming a spore print (Figure 2). <\/p>\r\n
The water to be used for preparing the spore suspension must first be sterilized in a pressure cooker for at least 30 minutes. Draw the sterilized water into a syringe, then place a few drops onto the spore print and mix the spores into the remaining water in the syringe (Figure 3). While doing this, open the container with the spore print as little as possible to avoid introducing unwanted microorganisms. Spores should be collected only from areas of the print where the cap did not touch the surface, minimizing the risk of transferring potential microbes from the cap. The lowest contamination risk is from spores collected in the center of the print.<\/p>\r\n

In this way, a syringe with a spore suspension is obtained, which can then be used to inoculate sterile substrates and grow mycelium for mushroom cultivation.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
